CPR Training

St John is offering 15% discount on any training courses they provide to Curtin Staff or Students.

For areas that require group training (minimum 8 people) to occur on Campus please email emergency_management@curtin.edu.au

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

Objectives:

Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is an easy, short course that will provide you with the skills and knowledge to enable you to perform basic life support skills in a range of situations. As well as learning how to respond to an unconscious and unresponsive casualty, this course will outline the chain of survival, the DRSABCD action plan and will deliver the skills required to use an Automated External Defibrillator.

Content Outline:

DRSABCD action plan
Legal issues and infection control
Principles of first aid and the chain of survival
Basic anatomy and physiology of the respiratory system
Airway obstruction
CPR; four minutes of uninterrupted Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation on the floor – perform CPR procedures, adult and infant
Use of an Automated External Defibrillator
Stress management awareness
Respond to an emergency situation

Management of:

Clearing and maintaining the airway
Safe manual handling techniques
Checking for normal breathing and recognising abnormal breathing
Cardiac Arrest
Use of Automated External Defibrillator including specific consideration for child and adult
Providing an accurate verbal report of the incident
Safe work practices to minimise risk
Infection control
